New Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan launched with Battersea community
We have published the Winstanley Neighbourhood Regeneration Plan, setting out a ten-year programme of investment shaped by the local priorities that we have heard from residents and community organisations.
Launched at the local Battersea Community Festival on Saturday, the plan explains how we will deliver improvements to homes, streets and community facilities, while ensuring residents remain at the centre of decision-making over the neighbourhood’s future.
Based on feedback and engagement with residents, the plan focuses on five key priorities:
- Delivering the new affordable homes residents need, supported by shops, services and jobs
- Creating a place where everyone feels safe, with community initiatives, better lighting and visibility in public spaces
- Building a community based on trust, shaped by residents and giving them ownership of local investment
- Designing a better-connected neighbourhood with greener, more enjoyable streets and public spaces
- Preparing for the future with sustainable buildings and initiatives to cut waste and help residents save money
Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said: “Our new proposals for improving and investing in the Winstanley neighbourhood are the result of careful listening to what the local community needs and wants for their area. We were delighted to be able to launch these plans at the Battersea Community Festival so we could talk to people about the positive changes and opportunities ahead.”
The plans were on show at a council stand at the festival, with information boards and a feedback map for residents to pin their comments. Copies are being sent to estate residents and will be available at local libraries.
Residents also signed up for new Community and Youth Panels to help shape the next phase of the regeneration.
Also showcased at the Battersea Festival were two projects highlighting the area’s community spirit and local champions.
Our Battersea involved people of all ages to create bunting decorated with drawings, words and pictures capturing what, or who, makes Battersea special to them. Every contribution was used to decorate Este Road, turning it into a public artwork that reflects local pride.
Meanwhile, Our Story is a portrait exhibition by photographer Sandra Alvarez-Munoz, celebrating the neighbourhood’s Community Champions. The portraits will remain on display across the Winstanley area, recognising those who give so much time and effort to local life.
