Extended schools
All schools in Wandsworth work with a range of partners and providers to extend the services they offer to pupils, parents and the wider community.
An extended school provides services, either within the school itself or more usually by signposting to other schools and local providers. These are:
- A varied programme of activities
- Childcare, including holiday provision (primary schools only)
- Swift and easy access to specialist targeted services
- Parenting support
- Community access
Benefits of extended services
Research by Ofsted shows that extended services within schools produce a number of benefits:
For pupils, there was evidence that activities could improve attainment, behaviour and attendance.
For families, there was evidence that activities could improve involvement in children's learning and that adult education was helping parents to act as role models for their children.
For communities, there was evidence that activities could improve community pride and community spirit.
