VE Day street parties 2025
We are calling on communities to come together to mark the 80th anniversary of the end of the war in Europe by celebrating with street parties across the borough.
Victory in Europe Day – known as VE Day – marks the penultimate chapter in the Second World War when fighting came to an end in Europe.
VE Day is on 8 May 2025, however, the Early May Bank Holiday on Monday 5 May is being dedicated to nationwide community celebrations and Wandsworth Council has issued a rallying call for communities across the borough to hold their own street parties, reminiscent of the celebrations that took place 80 years earlier.
Celebrating with your neighbours is a great way to:
- Bring the local community together
- Allow people to experience the streets free of motor traffic
- Give children the space to play safely
- Reduce air pollution
To hold a VE Day Street party on either the 3, 4 or 5 May, submit your application by Sunday 6 April 2025.
Street parties usually cost £64 but those held to mark VE Day over the weekend of 3, 4 and 5 May are free of charge, to encourage residents to come together.
