Disabled Persons Parking Bay

If you hold a Blue Badge and you own or keep a vehicle at your address, you can apply for a Disabled Persons Parking Bay to be marked on the road near your home.

We cannot approve a disabled bay on the highway if you have access to an off street parking space or if you live on an estate and have access to a parking space. Contact your Estate Manager to enquire about how to apply for a disabled parking space on estate land.

How to apply

To apply you must complete the Disabled Persons Parking Bay application form and return to us by post or email.

You should ensure that you:

  • Get your application form is signed and stamped by your doctor
  • Enclose copies of your vehicle registration document (V5C) or signed agreement from 'Motability'
  • Provide a photocopy of both sides of your Blue Badge

What happens next

Once we receive the application, your details will be checked to confirm eligibility and we will undertake parking surveys in your road. If the surveys show that you regularly have difficulty parking close to your home, then a bay will normally be provided.

Advisory installation

Disabled bays are initially installed on an ‘informatory’ basis without a traffic sign, which means that it is advisory, is not covered by a Traffic Management Order (TMO) and is therefore unenforceable. If you live within a Controlled Parking Zone (CPZ), you must either display your Blue Badge, a valid CPZ permit or make a valid payment, during the operational hours of the CPZ.

Upgrade consideration

After a period of use, if you are still having trouble parking close to your home, we can consider upgrading it to a mandatory Disabled Persons Parking Bay covered by a TMO. The bay would then require a traffic sign indicating ‘disabled badge holders only’. Failure to clearly display a valid Blue Badge in a signed disabled bay will result in a PCN.

Disabled bays are not the property of the applicant, or for their exclusive use, and can be used by other Blue Badge holders.

Timescales

You will be notified of the outcome of your application within 28 days.

Removing a bay

If a Disabled Persons Parking Bay is no longer needed you must let us know, as it is important that the space is made available for other vehicles.
