What is Building Control?
Building Control is a legal requirement that must be obtained before carrying out work that involves the erection, extension or alteration of a building. The process ensures that building work is carried out in compliance with the building regulations and associated legislation.
The building regulations set minimum standards relating to a building's design and construction. They promote energy efficiency in buildings and contribute to meeting the needs of the people who use the building, including those with disabilities.
Building Control approval is not the same as planning permission. Planning permission relates to the appearance of the building and its impact on the neighbourhood.
