What building regulations cover
The building regulations cover:
- A wide range of building work from major office, shop and residential developments to small domestic works like extensions, through lounges and loft conversions
- Installation of new electrical circuits.
The interactive house tool on the Planning Portal website provides further details.
Approved documents (GOV.UK) offer guidance on how to comply with the regulations and cover the various aspects of construction.
Appointing a builder or agent
Whether or not you appoint your own agent, architect, engineer or surveyor we will offer impartial advice and guidance on your project. We cannot act as your own private surveyor but we can give informal comments on proposed work and may be able to suggest more economical ways of achieving the same objective. If necessary we will make a preliminary site visit before you make a formal application.
If you appoint a builder or agent we will deal directly with them.
Building Control advice
If you would like to discuss a project with a surveyor call 020 8871 7620 to arrange an appointment.
Approved inspectors
Legislation allows private approved inspectors to check work requiring building regulation approval as an alternative to gaining approval from us.
