Book now for Wandsworth Heritage Festival 2024

Deputy Leader of the Council Kemi Akinola said: “As Wandsworth prepares to be London Borough of Culture 2025, the annual Heritage Festival is a taste of the historical richness of our borough.

“There’s a wide range of walks, talks and events so please take time to look at the programme and find something that sparks your interest.”

The focus this year is on health and wellbeing in Wandsworth’s past and present. Most events are free, but some need to be booked in advance.

Highlights include walks around literary Battersea, the boundary of Tooting Graveney parish and the folklaw and traditional uses of plants in the hedgerows of Tooting Common

Explore the overlap between educational training and health, find out about Battersea’s own Crystal Palace, take a tutored beer tastings in Ram Street, find out about Black genealogical research, take a deep dive into the history of Tooting market, hear the untold histories of local hospitals and attend a Heritage Day at the Woodfield Pavilion.

St Anne’s Church in Wandsworth will celebrate its bicentenary with open days and there will be commemorative plaques unveiled celebrating Dr Levinson and the Furzedown Project, Deaconess Isabella Gilmore and Charlotte Despard.

Activities for children include library storytimes and a craft and archaeology workshop.

The annual Wandsworth Heritage Festival runs from May 18th to June 9^th. It is organised by the Wandsworth Heritage Service to celebrate Wandsworth’s rich past, with the support of contributors from local groups and societies who share their enthusiasm, knowledge, and time.
