The proposals include a requirement for developments to deliver 50% affordable housing across new developments in the borough to ensure that new developments provide more genuinely affordable housing. Our plans will require a majority of affordable homes will be for social rent.

For the first time, developments of nine homes or fewer will also contribute to affordable housing.

There is still time to provide your comments on these proposed changes.

The consultation documents, and further guidance including a non-technical Easy Read summary, are all available online or in hard copy at Wandsworth Town Hall or local libraries during regular opening hours.

Details of how to respond to the consultation are available at the same locations, but residents are encouraged to email their responses to planningpolicy@wandsworth.gov.uk

All responses must be received by Monday 24 February 2025

Simon Hogg, Leader of Wandsworth Council, said:

“In an ongoing housing crisis, there is still not enough genuinely affordable housing being built, and so we are seeking to make changes to our Local Plan to address that. It is important that we hear from as many residents as possible on these proposals.”

Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

“We want developers to deliver more affordable housing, with a majority of this being council or social rent. If every third home we built was an affordable home, we could solve the housing crisis in a decade.”
