Wandsworth residents give gold-standard rating to free bulky waste collection service

Wandsworth’s free bulky waste collection service is proving a hit with residents, helping to keep homes and streets tidy and supporting the council’s commitment to a cleaner borough. In just two months, more than 5000 people have booked a collection, describing the service as ‘extremely easy and effective’ and ‘immensely helpful.’

The universal service is free for every household in Wandsworth and makes it easier than ever to dispose of large items like mattresses, old furniture and white goods. 

Making life easier for local people

As part of our Cleaner Borough Plan, every household in Wandsworth can now book two free bulky waste collections a year, saving residents time, money, and hassle. The service has already prevented thousands of unnecessary trips to the tip, with an average rating of 4.8 stars out of 5 in a recent survey.

“I found the bulky waste collection extremely easy and effective. I am very happy Wandsworth offer this services and made moving house so much easier,” said Katie from Tooting. 

Alex from Putney added, “No issues, a completely smooth operation from start to finish! It’s a really useful service to have free access to a couple of times a year, especially when doing a big clear out without personal access to a vehicle. Really happy with the service and with the council generally.”

A cleaner borough

With this new service most households are able to book a collection within a week – on the same day as their regular bin and recycling services. Lots of residents have shared how helpful the service is in helping busy people  get rid of  bulky waste another way.

Jen, who lives in Wandsworth, told us, “I don’t have a car so it’s difficult to make trips to the tip. It was great to see two collections are free, it was easy to arrange, and it was collected as promised!”.

A resident in Nine Elms also shared, “It was smooth and easy, I left the items outside the night before and when I got back from work, they were gone.”

The perfect time for a spring clean

Simple, fast and free

Residents can request up to four bulky items or 12 sacks of waste per collection. You don’t even need to be at home – just leave the items outside and the council will take care of the rest.
