Proposals for a controversial 28-storey tower, plus ground floor and basement levels, at One Battersea Bridge have been rejected by Wandsworth’s Planning application Committee at a meeting on Thursday 24 May.

The committee concluded that the proposal was of excessive size and would disrupt the character of the waterfront.

Leader of the Council, Simon Hogg, said “The Committee is responsible for the scrutiny of applications and considers the merits of an application on paper as well as the voices of residents. The committee were unanimous about the harms of a 29-storey tower in this location, in breach of Wandsworth’s Local Plan which sets out acceptable heights for the area.”

Council officers had recommended the application for refusal due to its height and scale in comparison to the local area, which goes against the guidelines set out the borough’s Local Plan and the London Plan. The report (2024-1332 East) can be found on the council’s website

The council has a robust approach to planning which seeks to ensure that land in the borough is used for the benefit of local people. The Planning Applications Committee is an independent committee and plays an important role in translating local views into decision-making.
