VE Day, or Victory in Europe Day, is the anniversary of the end of the Second World War in Europe and we are encouraging celebrations in Wandsworth.

Applications are now open to local voluntary and community groups to apply to the VE Day 80th Anniversary Grant Fund. Grants of between £500 and £1000 are available and all applications must be received by midnight on April 21.

Events should be inclusive and creative and a priority will be to support events for people who may not be able to attend a street party. The money can be spent on things such as food (but not alcohol), equipment, venue hire and staff costs.   Find out more and apply.

Road closure fees have been waived for residents to organise street parties over the Early May Bank Holiday weekend, but applications must be received by April 6 – find out more and apply.

Deputy Council Leader Kemi Akinola said: “Our local VCS groups play a key role in our communities, and we want to support them to celebrate this important anniversary.

“Not everyone can attend a street party, so we’re inviting groups to think about events that can bring everyone together to have fun with their neighbours and pay tribute to everyone who fought for our freedom.”
