Last few days for people to comment on plans to improve little used space on Putney Riverside

A consultation is currently underway into plans to transform this small green riverside space on Lower Richmond Road into a greener, more accessible and a more pleasant leisure and amenity space for local people and visitors.

The work will complement the creation of a new public area being created as part of the Thames Tideway project. Waterman’s Green is also adjacent to an area already used for outdoor drinking and dining.

The council’s transport spokesperson Cllr Clare Fraser said: “Waterman’s Green has been closed off to local people for some time because of the Tideway works. We want to take the opportunity to make sure that when it reopens it is a much greener, more usable space for all to use.

“We are committed to improving Putney’s air quality, creating better pedestrian links between Putney High Street and the riverside area and making the area safer for pedestrians and those who cycle by improving the junction of the Lower Richmond Road and Putney High Street.

“We want to incorporate the views of local people into our final plans, so I would encourage residents, businesses and people who work in Putney or travel through it to share their thoughts.”

The public consultation runs until September 25. To help people visualise the space and how it could be improved, the council has organised a tour of the space for tomorrow (Wednesday, September 21) at 5pm. Attendees should meet in the Cromwell Room at St Mary’s Church by Putney Bridge.
