Nearly 6 million adults in England still smoke, and it remains the single biggest behavioural cause of preventable death, with 64,000 deaths a year.
“Quitting smoking is one of the best things smokers can do for their health. If you quit for the whole of October – 28 days - you’re five times as likely to quit for good.” said Councillor Graeme Henderson, Cabinet member for adult health and care.
He added, “Quitting will help you to be more active, feel better - and put more money back in your pocket. “There’s lots of advice and support you can get from the Council, as well as the NHS’ Stoptober campaign, so I urge all smokers to take this opportunity to quit smoking for good this October.”
Wandsworth Councils’ Stop Smoking Service offers free help, advice and access to Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT) and other stop-smoking medications to all smokers who live or work in Wandsworth.
Accessing this service means you are four times more likely to stop smoking for good thanks to getting the right advice, products to use, along with regular support and information. You can also visit Wandsworth Council’s health bus when it’s out and about in the borough, to speak to someone about stopping smoking.
Stoptober Stoptober also offers a range of free quitting tools including,
- the NHS Quit Smoking app
- Facebook messenger bot
- Stoptober Facebook online communities
- Daily emails and SMS messages
- Online Personal Quit Plan tool.
