The event marks the completion of the external works on site as the project nears its final stages. It is anticipated that the site will complete in spring 2023. The project will deliver a total of 41 new homes
The Kersfield Estate forms part of the council’s 1,000 homes programme. Under the new administration, recommendations have been approved by Wandsworth’s Executive Committee to switch all projects in the existing programme to council rent, subject to all relevant planning permissions. This includes the Kersfield Estate, which had previously been set to deliver 27 of the 41 homes for market sale.
The site will also provide new play spaces for young children and extensive improvements to the landscaping around the new development and to existing buildings. This is part of the council’s commitment to deliver wider benefits to existing communities through its development programme.
Cllr Aydin Dikerdem, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:
“Delivering more affordable housing and maximising the council’s stock of affordable housing is a key target for this administration. We will continue to deliver high-quality homes, like those at Kersfield, that are accessible and adaptable to suit the needs of our residents.”
The Kersfield Estate is being built by Wates Residential who have created five apprenticeship job opportunities for local people to work on the development, along with nine work experience placements, giving local people the chance to take their first steps into construction.
Glen Roberts, Operations Director at Wates Residential, said:
“Topping out is a traditional ceremony that celebrates reaching the highest point of a building. Here at the Kersfield Estate in Wandsworth, Wates is building warm and efficient homes that local people will soon be able to enjoy. This milestone brings this prospect closer to realisation, and we look forward to seeing new residents enter these modern new homes”
