In total 224 street parties have been arranged which will allow local residents and neighbourhoods to come together to salute and celebrate Her Majesty the Queen’s 70 years on the throne.
The council has encouraged these neighbourhood celebrations by waiving all its normal fees associated with arranging a street closure – meaning residents can instead spend their hard-earned cash on food, drinks, flags and bunting.
Council leader Simon Hogg said: “The people of the borough will come together in unprecedented numbers to celebrate this historic royal occasion.
“I am delighted that so many neighbourhood street parties will be happening. They demonstrate the deep affection and respect so many people have for our monarch and the great community spirit that we enjoy in Wandsworth.”
Those arranging street parties are being urged to do all they can to keep their streets clean by clearing up afterwards and to also ensure that the necessary road closure signs are prominently displayed so that road users are fully aware that an event is being staged. Party organisers are also being urged to make sure that noise levels are kept to reasonable levels, especially if parties continue in the evening and night.
