Cllr Simon Hogg said: “This is a fresh start for Wandsworth and it is a huge honour to be leading a new administration that will be looking out for the people of Wandsworth.
“Last night’s election was a clear indication that our residents have an appetite for change and we will not let them down. We want to be an open council that focuses on meaningful dialogue with everyone across all of our wonderful diverse communities, putting them first as we take the decisions needed that will make this borough cleaner, greener and fairer.”
The new make-up of the council is now Labour 35, Conservative 22, Independent 1. Voter turn-out across the borough was 41.24 per cent.
Cllr Hogg added: “I would like to thank everyone who voted on Thursday as well as all of the Council staff who worked hard to deliver such an efficient and smooth election process. I look forward to working with them.
“In the coming days we will be announcing the make-up of the new administration with our cabinet portfolios as well as prioritising what needs to be done to meet our ambition to create genuinely affordable homes as well as safer and greener neighbourhoods.
“And we will be true to our promise of keeping your Council Tax low for the long term. We are ready with our fresh ambitious vision built on fairness and common sense – and will deliver real differences to our residents.”
