Work continuing on £500k project to upgrade park railings and footpaths

The town hall is carrying out a parks and open spaces improvement project that involves the full repair and refurbishment of cast iron perimeter railings and pathways.

These improvements are being carried out at more than a dozen parks and green spaces across Wandsworth.

In total just under 1,000 square meters of paths and walkways are being repaired, while more than 8,200 metres of railings will be refurbished and repainted – the equivalent of more than five miles.

And this week the council’s environment spokesman Cllr Steffi Sutters visited Wandsworth Park to see how the scheme is progressing.

She said: “Looking after our green spaces is something our residents expect and that is why I’m delighted we are carrying out this £500,000 investment programme.

“Wandsworth is blessed with some of London’s best parks and open spaces. From the delights and attractions of Battersea Park and our commons in Wandsworth and Tooting, to our smaller local neighbourhood green spaces, we are one of London’s greenest and leafiest broughs and we’re determined to keep all of them looking good.”

Other open spaces benefiting from refurbished railings are Huguenot burial ground, Garratt Green, King George’s Park, Wandsworth Park, Roehampton Playing Fields, Christchurch Gardens, Bramford Road, Coronation Gardens, Wandsworth Common and Battersea Park East Carriage Drive.

Those to benefit from pathway repairs are Latchmere Recreation Ground; Battersea Park’s Albert car park, Chelsea Gate, Chelsea Field and riverside walk, Wandsworth Common, King Georges Park, Heathbrook Park, Suffolk Hall Open Space, Wandsworth Park, Tooting Common and Garratt Lane Burial Ground.
