Wandsworth celebrates International Women’s Day

Today is International Women’s Day and Wandsworth Council is celebrating women’s achievements and continuing its work to help keep them safe.

The council’s Economic Development Office, which supports local businesses, is inviting women to sign up for the upcoming Women’s Enterprise Day and is inviting nominations for the Wandsworth Enterprise Women’s Awards. to find the borough's most inspiring female entrepreneurs.

The borough’s youth clubs will be running sessions especially for girls and young women at centres across the borough.
And the council’s community safety team has organised sessions with council staff and other professionals to raise awareness of violence against women and girls.
Wandsworth is a White Ribbon accredited organisation for its work tackling violence and abuse against women and will shortly be publishing a three-year Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy to tackle domestic violence and abuse, sexual violence, female genital mutilation, 'honour-based' violence, forced marriage and stalking and harassment.
In addition the council’s housing department has been awarded the Domestic Abuse Housing Alliance accreditation charter mark recognising its comprehensive and robust response to domestic abuse.
And the council’s Women’s Network is committed to ensuring women who work at Wandsworth Council feel safe, listened to and empowered.
Deputy Leader of the Council, Cllr Kim Caddy said: “In Wandsworth we are proud to celebrate the very many successful women who bring so much to our local communities and business sector. We want to help create a gender equal world where women from all backgrounds can flourish and achieve.
“We will continue to work to keep women safe, to eliminate bias in Wandsworth Council as an organisation, and to ensure that women’s voices are heard.”
