The first stage of the improvement scheme for St John’s Road will get underway next week (Monday, March 14) and will see engineers carrying out kerb and drainage repairs between Battersea Rise and Lavender Hill.
This phase is expected to take around two weeks to complete, depending on the weather. In order to minimise disruption to local businesses and avoid the need for bus diversions, these works will be carried out overnight. Pedestrian access will be maintained at all times.
The second phase is due to begin on Monday, April 4 and will see extensive carriageway repairs completed over an anticipated two week period, weather and ground conditions permitting.
During this second phase, the road will be closed to traffic and buses will be diverted via St John’s Hill, Strath Terrace, Boutflower Road and Battersea Rise. Passengers will be able to find out full details of these changes via the TfL website. Vehicle deliveries to local businesses will be maintained as far as possible. Pedestrian access will remain unaffected.
These works will be carried out between 8am and 5pm Monday to Saturday.
Transport spokesman Cllr John Locker said: “We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience these works cause to local residents and businesses but they are absolutely essential to keep the road surface safe and in good condition for all roads users. They will also improve the appearance and character of the area.
“Please rest assured that we will make every effort to complete the work as planned and keep inconvenience to a minimum. Our contractor will strive to maintain safe access to shops and homes while the works are underway, and if there are any specific access needs please do let us know so that we can take steps to enable this.
“If you require any further information or if you have any comments or concerns regarding the works, please call us on (020) 8487 5338 or email trafficandengineering@wandsworth.gov.uk quoting St John’s Road Highway Maintenance works.”
