Education inspectors say Ernest Bevin is a good school

Improvements have been seen across all aspects of school life from quality of education; behaviour and attitudes; personal development; leadership and management and its sixth-form provision.

College principal Tracy Dohel said: “We are absolutely thrilled with this judgement as it validates all the hard work and commitment of the students, staff, parents, governors and the wider college community. Onwards and upwards from here on!”

The inspectors highlighted a wide range of key factors enabling them to reach their conclusion from leaders creating an environment in which pupils are cared for and supported to do well, time in lessons is used well and learning is rarely disrupted by poor behaviour, and pupils have positive relationships with their teachers and feel safe in school.

Overall the report reflects the dedication and contribution from students, staff, parents and governors to achieve ‘good’ across all categories.

The inspectors added: “The way in which lessons are structured helps pupils to learn and to remember. Teachers’ very strong subject knowledge, especially in the sixth form, helps pupils to prepare well for their next steps in education, training or employment.

“Pupils can take advantage of a wide range of activities outside lessons, including many sporting clubs.

“Pupils are particularly proud of the school’s success in table tennis and the Combined Cadet Force.”
