Transforming Tooting Triangle

Tooting Triangle is located towards the north of Tooting Common.

The site includes large grass areas, a children's playground, a Redgra football pitch, and several buildings. One of the buildings is currently occupied by Balham Boxing Club.

Help shape the future of Tooting Triangle

We're working on plans to improve the Tooting Triangle. We want to make it more welcoming, accessible, and enjoyable for everyone. From ecology improvements to better facilities, the whole community should enjoy this much-loved green space even more.

Take a look at what we're thinking and let us know what you like, what matters the most to you, and what you would change.

Community engagement since 2024

In January 2024, we began talking with local stakeholders to shape the future of the triangle. This included:

  • An initial online meeting with key stakeholders, including the Friends of Tooting Common and the Tooting Commons Management Advisory Committee
  • A series of creative community sessions in December 2024, delivered through Our Triangle Time
  • An online webinar in July 2025 presenting the findings

These activities have laid the foundation for the launch of our new engagement hub. It's a space for ongoing collaboration, updates, and community-led design.

Our Triangle Time

Our Triangle Time was an eight day collaborative engagement process held at the former One O’Clock Club on the Tooting Triangle site.

Over 200 people engaged in the process, and participants reflected on key questions, including:

  • What does Tooting Triangle mean to you?
  • What role does it play in your life?
  • What do you love about it, what would you like to preserve, and what do you imagine for its future?

Results

The main conclusions were:

  • Tooting Triangle is an important place within the common and a valued community resource
  • The distinct mix of resources at the Tooting Triangle site is unusual and unique
  • Wandsworth Council must take the infrastructure problems of Tooting Triangle seriously, particularly the flooding issues and lack of public toilets
  • Tooting Triangle is a wasted resource which could be better utilised
  • The trust generated through Our Triangle Time should be built on and not wasted

Previous planning application

In 2020, we submitted an application to improve the indoor and outdoor sports facilities at the Tooting Triangle site. This application was refused by the Planning Inspectorate.

We're a listening council, so since then we’ve taken a new approach. The current engagement process builds on lessons learned and aims to co-design a future for the triangle that reflects local priorities and aspirations.
