About First football match - Green Plaque site
The first FA football match was held in Battersea Park in 1864. The Football Association (FA) was established in October 1863 in response to demand for clear rules for the game. In December 1863, the FA compiled the 13 rules of association football. The FA arranged a fixture in Battersea Park on 9th January 1864, with some of the best players in English football. The teams were captained by the FA president and the FA secretary, with the teams scoring 2-0 respectively. Both goals were scored by Charles William Alcock.
