Hayley Brockway
- Age: 46
- Company: Loughton Contracts
- Role: Project Co-ordinator
- Site: Battersea Power Station
"Working on projects is really interesting, as it is always evolving. No two days are the same. There is something tangible that we are creating, which keeps my interest. It is wonderful to feel that I have been part of the build, which has such a positive impact to my local community and will continue to create benefits to my community for years to come.
"Being part of the Battersea Phase 3 Women’s network, it is great to see women in roles that, I previously did not think women worked in. It has opened my eyes up to different careers and helped me when talking to my own children about the different types of careers available. The Women's Network has also enabled me to make female friends on site and we have been able to discuss gender specific topics, as well as touring Phases 2 and 3 and getting a special preview of Battersea Power Station (including the control room), before it opened to the public."
Kielnan Dias
- Age: 33
- Company: ASM
- Role: Fitter's Mate
- Site: Battersea Power Station
"I was familiar with dry lining, so when an opportunity came up to be interviewed on the contractor day at BPS as part of the training programme, I jumped at the opportunity. The contractor (TimK) decided to give me a chance and I started my first job at BPS on Phase 3. This was the first job in my life that I could financially support myself in.
"It has affected me in such a positive way. I feel like this has turned my life around and I am a part of society now. I now try to impact other people lives by telling them how much better life is for me, since I have turned things around and am now earning an honest living."
Mark Ireland
- Company: JCOFFEY
- Role: Logistics Manager
- Site: Battersea Power Station
"As Logistics Manager, I am in charge of deliveries, collections, traffic marshals, forklift supervision, cleaners, labourers, rubbish clearance, storage and COSH. As logistics manager if anyone needs anything on site they contact me. At the start of each day I brief my team on the day's activities, but following this, no two days are ever the same. When deliveries are made I make sure that the materials are in the right place at the right time and the roads on site remain clear to ensure deliveries can be made. Other times I am constantly walking around site making sure that the site is kept safe and clean.
"I enjoy working on Battersea Phase 3, as it is a new challenge and I am learning every day. Every day is an education again.
"The fact that I am the 1,000th local person to be supported into a job in the Wandsworth area by Work Match is no surprise to me, as they do a wonderful job in ensuring that applicants have the right skills and training in place to apply for local job roles. I appreciate the help and support Karen Gray and her team have done for me to get this Logistics Manager role with JCOFFEY."
Nicola Thorogood
- Age: 42
- Company: Lindner
- Role: Apprentice Site Manager
- Site: Battersea Power Station
"I am really grateful to be employed in a dynamic and ever changing sector, which is really exciting. The team at Lindner have been really welcoming and I have been made to feel very much part of a team. I now have the opportunity to learn while I work and gain a new qualification. I am working towards a Level 5 Operations/Departmental Manager qualification in the Built Environment, which I am really enjoying. The tutors are really engaging, helpful and boost my confidence.
"Battersea is such an amazing project. I don’t know if I’ll ever have the opportunity to work on anything so huge! There is always something new to learn and develop my own skills and knowledge. Coming from a design background, it is interesting to see how Lindner design the glazing to fit within the different shaped buildings at Battersea. I feel supported and valued working for Lindner. Lindner is a family company and I feel part of that family."
