Council garages, motorbike units, storesheds and bikehangars

Wandsworth residents can apply to rent a garage, motorbike unit or store shed. Priority will be given to council tenants and leaseholders living on the same estate, or in the closest proximity to the storage space. People who live in the borough will then be given priority ahead of those living outside the borough.

There is a waiting list for storage spaces in most areas of the borough. In most cases the wait exceeds 12 months.

How to apply

Complete an online application form:

Receiving an offer

If you receive an offer you must let us know whether it is suitable within 7 days of viewing the space. Offers cannot be made if you have arrears with the council. Discretionary offers may be made on a case by case basis in special circumstances.

Charges

Rent for garages, motorbike units and store sheds varies. You will be advised of the rent when you receive an offer. Non council tenants are subject to VAT on garages.

Repairs and locks

We manage repairs to garages, motorbike units and store sheds.

You are responsible for locks. In the event of a break in, we can arrange a lock repair/replacement upon receipt of a crime reference number.

Moving home or giving up storage space

You must notify us in writing or by completing a Notice To Quit form.

Postal address:

You will need to vacate the storage space and return the keys to us. Otherwise you will still have to pay rent.

If you rent a store shed outside of a block you may be able to keep this when you move providing you are moving within the borough.

Repossession

We reserve the right to repossess where:

  • You have arrears, including property rent or service charge arrears
  • It is not being used for the agreed purpose
  • It has been sub-let or passed to a third party

If you fail to pay rent on your non-residential property and we repossess you will be given one opportunity to pay off the arrears plus six weeks' rent in advance and storage fees. Should this happen a second time we will not reinstate your non-residential tenancy. You will be asked to vacate your unit immediately.

Bikehangars

Council tenants and leaseholders who wish to use a bikehangar on council land should contact their area team to make the request.

View more information on bikehangars on the public highway (not housing estates).
