Relationships support for young people leaving care
Your relationships with the people in your life who love and care about you, are things we work hard to support you with.
How we can help
As well as support from your personal adviser we may be able to offer you additional practical and emotional support if you want it.
We can support you with:
- A personal adviser who meets with you as regularly as you need and builds a positive relationship with you
- Where appropriate, continuing to support contact with the ‘independent visitor’ or mentor you had while you were in care
- Maintaining or regaining contact with people special to you or who cared for you in the past, like former foster carers or social workers
-
Forming and keeping healthy relationships with your friends and family
Lifelong Links
Lifelong Links is for Wandsworth care experienced young people. It helps find and bring together people who care about you. This can be people you know well, people you have not seen for a while (like a former worker or carer) and even relatives who you have not yet met. For more information please speak to your personal adviser.
Hobbies and activities
Former relevant and relevant young people can claim a £20 per month contribution towards any sports, hobbies or wellbeing club/membership that they wish to access. This might include social groups or activities that are important to you.
Counselling sessions
Our Future First counsellors can offer you sessions that allow you to work through some of the issues you have faced or currently face with relationships.
Daily duty system
Our support to care experienced young people does not end. We believe that if you need advice and support from us, we should be there to offer it. We make an ongoing offer to those young people aged 25 and above, for them to continue to use the advice and support of the daily duty system, if they need any help.
Young parents
We will help you to access support if you have a child, such as parenting groups and early years support.
Where you have experienced difficulties in your relationships, we will refer you to the right support service. This could be mediation, strengthening families groups, support for people who have experienced domestic abuse, talking therapies and many others.
