Claim a Council Tax refund

If there is a credit on your Council Tax account, you can claim a refund to be paid directly into your bank account.

What we need to know 

Have your bank details and Council Tax account number ready - your Council Tax number starts with 8 or 9.

In order to claim the refund, you must be one of the liable parties named on the account. If this is not the case please ask the bill payer to contact us and authorise you to receive the refund.

How long does a refund take? 

It takes 10 working days for final checks to be carried out to ensure the refund details provided, the amount and any reductions on the account are correct before it’s authorised. The refund can then take 5 working days before it appears in any nominated bank account.
