Alton Renewal Plan
The Alton Renewal Plan sets out how we would like to invest in the estate, working together to help this special part of Wandsworth thrive. Since launching this plan in July 2024, we have been delivering the initial phase of renewal projects with new council investment across the estate.
We’ve been listening carefully to your priorities for the place you live and work - feedback from residents, community organisations, businesses, and local stakeholders has helped shape all our plans.
The ballot
Residents living on the Alton are now being consulted on our new proposals for energy efficient new homes, bigger and better community spaces, improved shops, and easier movement around the estate for everyone.
If the majority of residents vote 'yes' to show they are in favour of our redevelopment proposals for the Alton estate, the plans for new homes, new shops and facilities and a GP surgery will go ahead, together with the early improvements in the Alton Renewal Plan.
If there are more 'no' votes than 'yes' votes, the old homes stay and the big changes listed above won't happen. However the projects being delivered as part of the initial Alton Renewal Plan will continue to be delivered.
The Alton residents' ballot is open from 22 September to 16 October. If you are eligible to vote you should have received your ballot papers. You can vote by phone, online, or by post.
The confidential ballot is being run by Civica Election Services. If you have any questions about the voting process you can contact Civica at support@cesvotes.com or on 020 8889 9203.

Alton Renewal Plan improvements
The Roehampton area has seen several exciting developments over the past year, aimed at improving the quality of life for its residents.
Roehampton Family Hub
Opened in October 2024, the new Roehampton Family Hub on Roehampton Lane is now providing access to free services under one roof.
Services include childcare support, birth registrations, mental health support, after-school activities and dedicated youth room, an IT area, and employment advice.
Employ Wandsworth jobs fair
This year’s Employ Wandsworth jobs fair is coming to Roehampton on Friday 9 May 2025. The event will be held at Whitelands College, bringing new employment opportunities to local residents and workers in the area.
Find out more about Employ Wandsworth and book your free place in advance.
Community safety touchdown hub
Together with local police, we have opened a new community safety touchdown hub in the heart of Roehampton which will better help our community safety officers to coordinate safety schemes.
New homes in Roehampton
Residents have now moved into new council homes on Fontley Way, and new homes at Putney Vale will be finished this autumn.
Improved transport links
As part of the Alton Renewal Plan, we have funded two new free Roehampton bus services, to help improve transport links between Roehampton and the rest of the borough.
Roehampton Transport Club (RTC) - a community minibus to help people who have difficulty using public transport to access local amenities.
The University of Roehampton bus service offered free travel for residents between Putney Bridge Station and Roehampton Vale ASDA from September 2024 and came to an end as planned at the end of the spring term in May 2025. Unfortunately, following a thorough review of the service, the university will not be running the service again from September. However, the Roehampton Transport Club (RTC) continues to be available and can take residents to various locations around the borough and on community outings for free.
